Document metadata

Last updated: July 20, 2023
Document metadata primarily consists of the following:
  • A document number which, together with the document revision, constitutes the document's prime identifier
  • Descriptive attributes, e.g. the title of the document
  • Control attributes, e.g. whether the document is subject to change control
  • Document components identified in a Contained-in relationship
  • Document cross-references

When a document is approved, the metadata cannot be changed unless the document is declared as Under Change, through defined configuration control procedures.

Secondary document metadata consists of:
  • Document responsibilities, e.g. author, approver, etc.
  • Document location
  • Document copies
